Tracking Changes

AI-Public has an advanced feature for tracking changes in chat messages. With this feature, you can view all versions of an answer, mark differences between versions, and edit and refine answers.

Activating Change Tracking

The change tracking feature must be manually activated via the chat settings:

  1. Open an existing chat
  2. Click on the tune icon in the toolbar to open the right side menu
  3. Under "View" you'll find the "Track Changes" option
  4. Click to toggle between standard view and change tracking mode

View Modes

  • Standard view: Normal chat experience with all features available
  • Track Changes: Specialized mode for text editing and version control

Automatic Adjustments in Edit Mode

When you activate change tracking, different settings are automatically adjusted:

Custom System Prompt

A special system prompt is added to ensure the AI:

  • Builds upon existing text instead of creating entirely new content
  • Focuses on improving and refining the current text
  • Maintains consistency with the existing writing style and content

You can view the full system prompt via "View System Prompt" in the chat settings, but it cannot be modified in edit mode.

Customized Tool Settings

The tool configuration is automatically adjusted for text editing:

  • Disabled: Image creation, Knowledge Quiz generation
  • Limited: Other tools not relevant to text improvement
  • Available: Tools for verification and text analysis

These adjustments ensure that the focus is entirely on improving text, without distraction from irrelevant functions.

Feature Overview

The change tracking feature is automatically activated when you:

  • Manually edit an answer
  • Perform quick edits (length, difficulty level, writing style, verification)
  • Generate a new answer based on an existing message

Version Indicator

At the top of each message, you'll see the current version: "Version X of Y". This shows which version you are viewing and the total number of versions.

  • Previous version: Go to the previous version of the answer
  • Next version: Go to the next version of the answer
  • Latest version: Jump directly to the most recent version
  • Close: Close the change tracking view and return to the default chat window

Visualizing Changes

Show/Hide Changes

Click the "Changes" button to mark differences between the current and previous version:

  • Green underlined text: Content added in the current version
  • Red strikethrough text: Content removed from the previous version
  • Normal text: Unchanged content

Automatic Marking

When changes are visible, "(changes marked)" appears next to the version indicator.

Workflow for Optimal Use

  1. Start in standard mode: Begin your chat normally and generate initial content
  2. Activate edit mode: Switch to "Track Changes" via chat settings
  3. Make targeted adjustments: Use manual editing or quick edits

  7. Return to standard: Switch back for normal chat functionality

Tips for Optimal Use

  1. Use changes view to see what has been modified between versions
  2. Combine edits by first manually editing and then applying quick edits
  3. Preserve different versions for different purposes (e.g., formal vs. informal report)
  4. Verify important information with verification tools before sharing content
  5. Check the system prompt to understand how the AI will respond
  6. Switch back to standard when you want to generate new content

Limitations and Considerations

  • Manual activation required: The feature does not start automatically
  • Limited tools: Some creativity tools are disabled in edit mode
  • Changes only between consecutive versions: No comparison between non-adjacent versions
  • System prompt not customizable: In edit mode, the prompt is optimized and locked
  • Manual edits override AI response: Original AI output is lost
  • Deleted versions not recoverable: Permanent deletion without backup
  • Formatting may be lost: When converting between different formats

This feature enables iterative work on the perfect version of an AI-generated answer, with full transparency about what has been changed and targeted tools for text improvement.
